The Institute for Practical Emergence has supported the IDG Initiative from the very beginning: as host of the IDG Community Hub Munich, as an official partner (until 2024) and as co-coordinator of the worldwide IDG community (until 2025). We introduce the Inner Development Goals, make them tangible and – where it fits – explore together how and where implementation makes sense.

In a roughly three-hour impulse workshop we present the IDGs and their relevance in the current context and work out what that means concretely for an organisation and its people – including first development opportunities (for example via an assessment) and possible next steps.

From the what to the how

With the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations defined 17 goals for sustainable development – the "what". But how can these goals be reached? Which inner capabilities and leadership qualities does it take? This is exactly where the Inner Development Goals come in: they describe the "how".

A global initiative from science, futures research, business and psychology has identified 25 goals across five dimensions – among them integrity, complexity awareness, relational capacity and creativity. This has grown into a worldwide movement that more and more people and organisations are joining.

Anyone who would like to dive deeper into the IDGs right away will find a good path with the IDG Journey of our partner EQU:WIN Academy.

We are also a partner of Ecologies, who have developed an approach that aligns cultural transformation and sustainable transition in one DNA – through learning, systemic insight and data.

Goals and content

Our workshops are never one-size-fits-all. In an initial conversation we clarify context and goals before a concrete proposal takes shape. One possible flow:

  1. Introducing the IDGs Background, initiators and content: who is behind them, who is already taking part, and why are the IDGs a key success factor for the sustainability goals?
  2. 5 dimensions, 25 goals A closer look at how the IDGs are structured – with practical examples that make their relevance tangible.
  3. Mini assessment What could a snapshot of the organisation look like? Different assessment approaches make the level of maturity visible.
  4. Implementation What could putting the IDGs into practice look like day to day? What are sensible first steps, what to watch out for, and where to start?

Who is it for?

For everyone who would like to introduce and try out the Inner Development Goals in their organisation.
